Saying Goodbye

This is the hardest part of sharing our hearts and lives with our animals.  When it's time to say goodbye, our hearts can truly break. We offer you and your pet the opportunity to make this the most stress-free and peaceful as possible by coming to your home or meeting you at your dog's favorite place, whether that be at the beach or your dog's favorite hiking spot.

How Do We Know Its Time

This is the most difficult question we will ask ourselves in our pet's lifetime.  Knowing will never be certain but when we consider our pet's total being we make informed choices for them. There are several good Quality of Life assessment tools on-line such as Lap of Loves Quality of Life Assessment and Journey's Home QOL Scale. These assessments help you assess pet's physical and medical well-being and ask important questions.  It is also important to consider your perceptions of your pet's emotional well-being and what is most important to you.  Does your dog or cat still enjoy their favorite activity?  Do they still interact with you, family members, other animals? Do they have the will to live?  Are we able to effectively manage their hygiene and assist with mobility if needed?  Your answers to these questions can help guide your decision.  We respect the decision you make and are here to discuss your concerns should you need our help.

Important to Consider

Planning-  Do  your family members and/or friends wish to be present? Should your pet's housemate be present? If you wish to bury your pet at home or elsewhere, do you have assistance available?   We encourage scheduling a day or two in advance to ensure as peaceful a farewell as possible.  However we do understand that sometimes urgent situations arise so we do our best to schedule same day appointments when we can.

After-Care- Do you plan to bury your pet or will we take them for cremation (please note that we cannot transport dogs over 75lbs)?  Do you wish to have an individual cremation and have your pets ashes returned to you?  Or a communal cremation where your pet will be cremated with other pet's and the communal ashes spread in the Pacific Ocean?

Grief Support & Memorials-  Losing our pet's can be one of the most emotionally painful events of our lives. Our pets are our companions, sometimes our emotional support, they depend on us, they play a very complicated role in our lives.  Losing them can be overwhelming and sometimes we need to reach out for support to help us sort out our feelings and understand out grief. Sometimes simply honoring them with a memorial can sooth our hearts.  Everyone needs something different.
